Orange Blossom: Desert Dub
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0RSwcn_5n8
"Orange Blossom are an exotic hybrid. Four musicians from different backgrounds and cultures, with different looks and sensibilities. Lead singer, Leila: dark-eyed, mysterious, French Algerian; a woman with a timeless, evocative voice. Violinist, PJ: French-born and classically-trained, an ex-punk with a healthy disrespect for technique. Percussionist, Mathias: raised in France, reborn among the people and instruments of West Africa. Drummer (and arranger and programmer) Carlos: a dreadlocked Mexican with a dog-eared passport and an attendant sense of musical adventure. Together, they meld into a sensual, glorious whole. Better get used to the name - Orange Blossom are about to be huge.
Their new album, Everything Must Change, is an amalgam of European electro-beats, West African polyrhythms, Arabic and Middle Eastern melodies and, all-stops-out rock. Orange Blossom create a new kind of music, music that references past and future, crosses cultural and linguistic borders. Music to dive in to, bliss out to, to make you giddy, laced with beautiful, sing-a-long Arabic lyrics, lifted by lush classical strings and tempered by dark, driving beats, Leftfield electro trance. Sweet-smelling, street-smart dance music. Or, if you like, an expression of hope and unity."

BTM, you turned me onto a *great* album some while back by Sainte-Columbe & Les Voix Humaines, "Concerts a deux violes esgales".
i just love it, am currently listening to it like an addict.
thank you for the recommendation!
do you have anything in a similar vein which you would recommend, something without lyrics to create a similar "space" or mindset, to just listen to or play in the background while working or reading?
god, it's gorgeous...

La Salve (Arianna Savall) 5:18 Montserrat Figueras, Jordi Savall, Arianna Savall, Ferran Savall, Pedro Estevan Du Temps & de L'Instant 80 Slow beautiful
the whole album is amazing... you might like

Yes, I have none of that sort either, really... only this album from your recommendation, and I also love an album of Hildegard Von Bingen's chants, which is great for the same sort of thing. Gorgeous stuff.

Indeed... lovely! Some of the women's vocalizing actually reminds me of the Von Bingen compositions.
