Let's not go too far, I'm impressed that they are doing a reasonable job of following the music - its still looks absolutely hideous to me, but they are making an attempt at dancing.
I hate jazz music, just a jumble of noise to me but to others it's a symphony to the ears and I certainly would not argue with them on it. What to you is following the music may be different for someone else. We all hear and interpret our own drummer. In your opinion if I just clomp back and forth from foot to foot but follow the music perfectly I am a fantastic dancer as you hold no other criteria.
I watched your West Coast dancers. Immediately when I saw how they dressed, walked, carried themselves and started the dance the terms "Rednecks" and "From the other side of the tracks" came to my mind. The woman swings her arms like a windmill to start the dance. What the hell was that? Welcoming the man to dance or airing her armpits? Yeah, quite the opening and to an audience too. Classy woman all the way there. She then carries on to give him a swaybacked boob bounce, which was her idea of being sexy I think, but since he is looking down at his feet most of the time to make sure they are attached he wouldn't notice he was dancing with a woman anyway, and probably doesn't care. Of course his attempt at sex appeal and to look masculine combines being bent over like an old man and dancing bowlegged and like a jellyfish. But hey, he is following the music and that is all that matters right? I'm sure if the men in the audience didn't decide after his exhibition that playing darts is a far better option then their wives convinced them. If you know him then perhaps you should convince him to take ballroom lessons so he can get a spine.
When I learned and competed in WC there was sex appeal, now it's like white bread with the crust cut off. With some WC people it's is a crap shoot to know who is dancing the woman's part and who the man's. To me they have destroyed WC but as long as many of them are happy dancing like eunichs then I am happy for them as like I said before, we all have our own idea of what is dancing and what gives us joy. Thank goodness we do as that is what makes dancing interesting and diverse.
I could have instead written many positive things but see how easy it is to be critical and only see the negatives if you allow your view to be narrow.
Alba you have written many good and interesting things on these boards. Please let us agree to disagree on some things and move on from a tired subject. It's like religion, who cares what you are as long as it gives you joy and peace of mind. Share with us so we can feel your joy but not at the expense of taking away someone else's.
