Actually, one of the things I have trouble with is that, when dancing smooth on a very crowded floor, the necessary angle changes and so forth start to interfere with my technique, and then I pick up bad habits.  It's when I have to cut something short, and interrupt my muscle memory to do it, that I start to have this problem.  Also, my DW has commented about me whipping my head back and forth as I try to spy out the traffic around me.

It is tricky and you also have to get over the fear of bumping into people, as I do...especially when V can't see them..especially if they travel against line of dance. But worth mastering

I read an interesting story written by one of the Canadian youth competitor's to the recent world youth championships. Basically I recall that they mentioned something to the effect:

"All 67 couples took to the floor for practice. It was brutal. Nobody dropped their frame and it everyone used their elbows as weapons."

A most interesting observation followed:

"We were most impressed by our fellow competitors passion and determination..."

or words to that effect.

Oh dear! We've seen that at some of our practise sessions too, especially the one before the nationals.

Oddly, I never thought about that.  I suppose its an opportunity to do some serious damage before the judges are looking... Shocked

Monday night we got trodden on AGAIN by the same couple who dance through us again and again.

I must admit I am starting to get annoyed.  To boot, the lady kicked my partner very hard at the end of the dance doing a fancy move which involved a kick.

Now I'm sure she had no intention of kicking my partner, but they are quite oblivious to us on the dancefloor, part of the gladitorial school of combat dance I suppose.

Now, when this sort of thing happened on the playground as a youth in England, you either took it and got ready for a lot more to come or...gave as good as you got. Since I was doing martial arts since age 5, I was in the latter school and I noticed they usually left you alone after learning that you weren't going to be pushed around.

My partner is very gracious and classy; I on the other hand am ready to hip throw them into the spectators area...
