It's getting worse and worse - my achilles really hurt in the mornings before I've done a bit of walking to loosen them up, let alone dancing.

Is there any way to reduce the soreness without actually stopping dancing?

see a doc NOW.  You may have either fasciitis or, worse, you may have weakend the tendon.  If he tells you to stop dancing for a while FOLLOW THE ADVICe.  You do not need an achilles tendon rupture - that wil put you out 6 miserale months.

Sorry but its a pet paranoia - based on the three people I know that did it.

must agree with Elise on this one. See a doctor before it may become to late and you are off your feet from dancing. Preventative is better than letting it wait!

yep I have been coping with achiles injury for 3 years.  Its just this last 12 months that I haven't been in constant pain.  If you go to the chemist, you can buy a shoe insert for street shoes specifically for achilles/fasha problems which helps me a lot.  I wear them in all my normal shoes.  I have been to physios, doctors and all sorts of specialists but the only thing that really fixed it was time and strapping the ankle if necessary - mummsie

Mine is also hurting - soon as it starts to heal I have another dance practise or lesson.  I suppose I should take a couple of weeks off - but who can do that? Besides its going to happen anyway when pro goes to Balckpool....

You should go to foot doctor to get checked out. I had plantar fasciitis 2-3 years ago. Went to foot doctor and got custom orthotics for my dance shoes. (Note: Need remove inner sole before inserting orthotics.) Also, doctor recommended stretching exercises for foot. After about 3-4 months, problem luckily cleared up. I also wore Birkinstock sandals around inside the house and outside when possible. They have a very good arch support which helps to stretch out foot too. I think these sandals helped me just as much as orthotics and exercises. Another thing, foot stretching before dance is also a good thing I think. Good luck and hope clears up soon!

remember its mythical origins: Achilles' tendon was his weak spot as it was the only part not to be dipped in the river Styx

so go see a doctor

like it or not, we all believe in some mythology - the real question is whether its one shared by others or not...

to every myth, joke, lie, tall tale, superstitions, etc ..... there is ALWAYS a shred (even the tiniest) of truth to it!
